Reports - Revenue Sources

Get a breakdown of where your business' revenue is coming from, with info on your various service options and different payment types.

Written by Lauren Taylor

Your account's reports are split between between several different pages: Dashboard, Revenue Sources, Tips, Taxes, Attendance, and Credits. In this guide we will explore the information available on the Revenue Sources page.

All values found on the Revenue Sources page are calculated based on subtotals for non-draft status invoices generated within the selected date range, not payments processed. This means values exclude invoice discounts, refunds, taxes, and tips. The only exception to this is the data displayed on the Payment Methods pie chart.

Note that all reports pages can be accessed by clicking/hovering your mouse over the Reports icon in the left-hand menu bar, then selecting an option from the submenu.

Adjusting the Displayed Date Range

The date range used to calculated the values displayed on the revenue sources is fully customizable, allowing you to see information specific to any desired set of dates. The controls for managing the displayed data are found at the top-right of the page.

Selecting the calendar icon at the left-hand side of the controls opens a calendar that may be used to select a custom range of dates.

Selecting the option to the right of the calendar icon opens a drop-down with a variety of pre-set date ranges including Today, Last 7 Days, Last 4 Weeks, Last 3 Months, Last 12 Months, Month to Date, Quarter to Date, Year to Date, and All Time.

If your business has more than one facility set up on your account you will also be able to filter the revenue data by facility. Though the page defaults to display combined data for all facilities, selecting the facilities filter at the top of the page opens a drop-down with a list of all facilities. Choosing any facility from the list prompts the system to display data for just that facility.

Data Overview

Just below the date range selection options you will see a set of pie graphs. These graphs give an overview of the three main components of your business' revenue for the selected date range: Sources, Services, and Payment Methods.

Sources

Breaks down the percentage of income from the purchase of memberships, packages, services, add-ons, and products.

Values calculated based on non-draft status invoices generated during the selected date range, not payments processed.

Services

Breaks down the percentage of income from the purchase of different service types, including boarding, daycare, grooming, training, and other type services.

Values calculated based on non-draft status invoices generated during the selected date range with paid status, not payments processed.

Payment Methods

Breaks down the percentage of different types of payments processed during the selected date range. Includes credit (both through Stripe and not through Stripe), debit, cash, cheque, e-transfer, other, and cash credit.

Values calculated based on payments processed during the selected date range, regardless of the generation date for the associated invoice.

To see the percentage associated with any component listed on the pie charts simply hover your mouse over that section.

Detailed Values

Beneath the general overview of the revenue data is a more detailed breakdown of your business' revenue for the selected date range. This section is broken down into four components: Sources, Services, Clients, and Products.

Sources

The Sources list breaks down the types of items included on invoices generated within the selected date range. This includes separate lists of all memberships, packages, services, and add-ons sold.

Add-ons

A breakdown of add-on purchases by add-on name. These values do not include add-ons purchased through packages or membership subscriptions.

Memberships

A breakdown of revenue from membership subscription payments made during the selected date range. Each list item includes the name of the membership, the number of subscriptions, and the associated revenue.

Packages

A breakdown of revenue from package purchases made during the selected date range. Each list item includes the name of the package, the number of purchases (i.e. separate invoice line items), and the associated revenue.

Products

A breakdown of revenue from different categories of retail products purchased during the selected date range. Each list item includes the category name and its associated revenue.

Services

A breakdown of service purchases by service type (training, boarding, grooming, daycare, other). These values include only services purchased directly. It does not include credits purchased through packages.

Services

The Services list provides more detail on the revenue generated from specific services during the selected date range. This includes separate lists for boarding, training, daycare, grooming, and other type services. Each service is listed by name along with the number of purchases (i.e. separate invoice line items) and its associated revenue.

There are a few important things to note about the data displayed in this section:

  1. The revenue values here do not include service credits purchased via packages or membership subscriptions, only those services or series purchased directly.

  2. "Purchases" refers to the number of invoice line items, not necessarily the number of credits.

i.e. If an invoice has an invoice with Doggy Daycare set to a quantity of 5 on a single line (not in a package) that is treated as a single purchase. If the invoice has all 5 Doggy Daycare sessions on separate lines, or if they are all on separate invoices, that is treated as 5 purchases.

  3. When series bookings are invoiced manually (resulting in separate line items for each booking in the set) that can impact the way that series' revenue is displayed. While the revenue will display as expected, the purchase count will reflect the number of line items included on the invoice.

i.e. A series made up of 6 steps will result in 6 line items (one for each step) when a booking is invoiced manually, meaning 6 purchases on the Revenue Sources page.

Clients

The Clients list provides information about top 10 clients for the selected date range, based on their non-draft invoice amounts. Each client is listed by name along with their invoice total. Selecting any listed customer's name opens their Customer Profile page.

Products

The Products section includes a more detailed breakdown of revenue generated from product sales during the selected date range. This includes lists broken down by specific products and products by brand. Each item (product or brand) is listed by name with its total associated revenue for the chosen date range.
