Tax Rates

Add the tax rates required for your area of business to have them automatically included on your invoices.

As the type and amount of taxes charged on pet services can vary significantly depending on where your business is located, BusyPaws allows you to set the taxes you charge your clients. When you add one or more tax rates to your account, those taxes will be automatically included on all of your invoices going forward. Information about taxes charged on payments will also be included in any invoice or payout data exports.

To set or adjust the taxes you are charging your customers, start by clicking the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Then select "Invoices" under the "Product Configuration" section.

Locate the "Taxes" section on your Invoice & Payment Settings page. Any tax rates included here will be automatically added to all of your new invoices.

Selecting "Add Tax Rate" will open a pop-up with a variety of setting options for your new tax rate. Use the "Rate" field at the top of the pop-up to set the percentage for the tax, then enter the type of tax into the "Label" field.

Use the "Tax inclusive" toggle to control whether your prices are listed for clients with or without the tax. When turned on (purple) line items on invoices and services in your booking portal to which the tax applies will be listed with tax inclusive pricing (total tax will still be listed on applicable invoices). When disabled, all items to which the tax applies will be listed with their pre-tax pricing.

Use the "Applies to" buttons to configure to which items the new tax rate should apply. Any option with the toggle turned on (purple) results in the tax being applied automatically to any items of that type.

Selecting the "Specific ..." button for services, memberships, add-ons, and/or product categories populates additional toggles that allow you to select specific items (i.e. services/series, memberships, add-ons, or products) to which the tax rate should apply (if any).

When you are finished configuring your tax rate, click the "Create Tax Rate" button to confirm your selections.

Use the "Add Tax Rate" option to add as many tax rates as needed to your account. Existing tax rates will be listed with their assigned percentage, name, and tags indicating how they apply.

Tax rates applying to all services, memberships, add-ons, products, and custom line items will display with a green "Global" tag. Those that apply only to certain selections display with a yellow "Limited" tag.

Select the gear icon next to any existing tax rate to adjust its settings. Click its trash can icon to remove it from your taxes list.
