Navigating the Pet Parent Mobile App

Learn more about how customers navigate our client-facing Pet Parent app. Explore the most important functionalities so you and your team can assist your clients with any questions they may have.

Written by Lauren Taylor

The BusyPaws Pet Parent mobile app is available for businesses on Team and Business level subscriptions only. It is not available for Solo or Starter level plans. To adjust your BusyPaws subscription level, navigate to the Billing page of your account.

The Private Pet Parent Portal is one of the most commonly used client-facing pages in BusyPaws - second only to the Public Booking Portal. It allows any of your existing clients to log in and not only self-book with you but also to have access to their records, messages, and other account details. By downloading the Pet Parent app, your clients can more easily access their account while on mobile. In this guide we will take a look at the basics of accessing and navigating the Pet Parent Mobile app.

For more detailed information on the various pages available in the Private Portal, see our Exploring the Pet Parent Portal help guide.

Downloading the App

Clients with an Apple device can download the BusyPaws Pet Parent app from the App Store, while those with an Android device can download it from the Google Play Store. They can find it easily by searching "Pet Parent by BusyPaws" or "BusyPaws Pet Parent" in the App Store or Google Play store, then downloading from there.

The following links can also be used to download the Pet Parent app directly:

It is very important that clients download the Pet Parent app, not the general BusyPaws app. The main app is specifically for business use (i.e. for you and your team). Only the Pet Parent app will allow them to log into their Pet Parent Portal account. The Pet Parent app icon includes a yellow "Parent" banner across the corner while the main app does not.

Initial Login

When a customer first opens the BusyPaws Pet Parent app they will be taken to a login page. The first step to log in from here is to enter their email.

After entering their email and selecting the "Find Account" button the system will find the business that has a client profile matching that email address. The business' name will populate automatically in the Provider field. The client can then enter their Private Portal password and select the "Login" button to log into their account.

If the client has profiles with multiple different businesses that use BusyPaws the Provider field will appear with a downward facing arrow at the right-hand side.

In this case, clients can select the Provider field to open a drop-down menu with the names of those different businesses. After choosing the appropriate provider, they can enter their password to log into their Private Portal account with that provider.

Client Profile accounts are separate between different businesses. If a single client has booked with multiple different businesses that use BusyPaws their different portal accounts will be accessed separately. This means their passwords are also set separately.

If the client makes a mistake in entering their email they can select "Go Back" to return to the email entry step. If they need to change their Private Portal password they can select "Reset Password".

After selecting "Reset Password" clients will be asked to confirm their email, then select the "Reset Password" button.

That will trigger an email with a confirmation code that the client can use to reset their password.

General Navigation

After logging in clients will be brought to their My Bookings page. General navigation options can be found at the top and the bottom of any page in the app.

Selecting their profile photo at the top-right corner opens a menu with options to access their Profile, Memberships list, Invoices list, Credits list, Stored Cards, or Gift Card redemption page. The "Sign Out" option at the bottom of this menu allows clients to log out from their profile.

Selecting the circular blue plus button at the bottom-right corner opens a submenu where clients can navigate to self-booking, package purchasing, or membership purchasing.

The options that appear here will depend on the settings you have chosen for your Private Pet Parent Portal. If you have disabled the Purchase Membership Button and Purchase Package Button those options will not be present and only "Book Now" will appear.

The three main icons at the bottom-centre of the view can be used to quickly access the client's pets list, bookings list, or messages list from anywhere in the app.

Selecting "More" (ellipses icon) at the bottom-left corner opens a sub-menu with options to access the Pet Parent Portal Calendar, any online Course content, the Report Cards & Documents, Forms they have submitted, and live Webcam feeds.

The icons that appear in this submenu will vary depending on what data is stored on the client's account and what settings you have chosen for your business.

The Pet Parent Portal Calendar displays only if you have chosen to enable that view for your Private Pet Parent Portal. Courses show only if the customer has access to at least one online course. Report Cards will display only if the client has received at least one report card from you (otherwise it will display only as Documents). Webcams will display only if you have connected and enabled at least one webcam feed.

For more details on the information available on each page of the portal, see our help guide on Exploring the Pet Parent Portal.

Mobile Notifications

Mobile notifications, or push notifications, allow clients to receive important notifications directly to their mobile device. These notifications include booking reminders and confirmations, vaccine reminders, and more. Customers with the BusyPaws Pet Parent mobile app on their device will have the option of enabling these notifications and control which types they receive.

These notifications are received in addition to any email/SMS notifications you may have enabled on your account.

Clients can configure the types of push notifications they receive from the My Profile page of their account.

Under the "Notifications" tab on this page customers can enable/disable the different notification categories. These settings are specific to mobile push notifications and will not impact email or SMS notifications.

These settings can be adjusted while the client is using the mobile app or while they are logged into their Pet Parent Portal from a browser, however only clients that have downloaded the Pet Parent app and logged in will be able to receive the push notifications they have enabled.

If a client has enabled push notifications from their profile page but is still not receiving any notifications on their device, they may not have enabled push notifications for the Pet Parent app as a whole. This can be adjusted from their device's general app settings.

Custom Branded Pet Parent App

Clients for all BusyPaws accounts on Team or Business level subscriptions have access to use the main BusyPaws Pet Parent mobile app. In addition, we are happy to offer the option of a custom branded Pet Parent mobile app to accounts on current Business level plans. The custom branded app provides all the same functionality as the general app but is set up with your logo and colour for the login page and app icon. Rather than using their email to search for the business with whom their profile is associated, clients will see your business listed right away, and log in directly.

If you are on a current Business level plan and are interested in getting a custom branded app for your clients to use, reach out to our team in the support chat or at support@busypaws.app. Once you have provided the logo (vector-based or png with transparent background) you wish to use and the hex code for the desired background colour on the login page, we can create your app to be available to your clients in the App Store and the Google Play store.

This applies to those on current Business plans only. Those on Legacy Business plans do not qualify. If you wish to upgrade to a current Business plan, whether from a Team subscription or a Legacy Business subscription, you can do so from the Billing page of your BusyPaws account.
